Day 24: HAVE to vs WANT to

On Saturdays, all three kids HAVE to wake up by 8:30 am so we can be out the door by 9:00 and at Greek School by 10:00 am. Today we were meeting my sister and my nieces at 11:00 to go to an escape room. I told the kids they HAVE to wake up by 9:45, but they were up at 7:30 am. “Why are you all up so early?”

“We WANT to be there on time,” they said.

I take them to the mall to shop, and all I hear is the whining, “Do we HAVE to go? We WANT to stay home. We WANT to relax.”

Today, the escape room was at the mall. “Guys, we HAVE to go. I HAVE things I HAVE to get done.”

“What we WANT to stay here. Don’t you HAVE anything to do here? We WANT to get something to eat with the cousins.”

We all headed to California Pizza Kitchen for a 3 hour lunch. “Can you stop talking and start eating?”

“We WANT to catch up. We haven’t seen each other in 8 days!”

When they HAVE to do something, they question, whine, and try to come up with a way for them to not do it. When they WANT to do something, they beg, persuade, and make deals so they can find a way to get it done.

Isn’t that the way it is for ALL of us?
